Wal-Mart growth continues

(September 30, 2003) — (Bentonville-AP) -- Beginning in February, Wal-Mart Stores plans to open as many as 355 new stores. That includes up to 55 new regular stores, as many as 230 Supercenters, up to 30 new Neighborhood Market grocery stores, and as many as 40 new Sam's Clubs. The world's largest retailer says 30 of the Wal-Mart stores will replace existing stores, 140 of the new Supercenters and 20 of the Sam's Clubs will replace existing stores. Wal-Mart International plans to open 130 to 140 new stores in existing markets. The company also plans new regional merchandise and food distribution centers during the fiscal year that begins in February. Wal-Mart's analysts are meeting this afternoon.
