JBU Hosts Early Registration Program for New Students

Siloam Springs, Ark (June 20, 2002) — 240 new JBU students and their families traveled to the John Brown University campus last weekend for JBU’s annual Early Registration Program (ERP). The program allows new JBU students to stay on campus, meet faculty and staff and other new students, and register for their first semester of classes.

Approximately 500 people, including new students, parents and siblings, participated in this year’s ERP weekend, which took place June 14-16. This year’s ERP was the largest in the program’s 17-year history at JBU.

“JBU's Early Registration Program is unique because we include the whole family in the weekend event,” said Don Crandall, vice president for enrollment management. “Students leave ERP with their fall class schedule, new friends and a clearer sense of direction for their future. Families tell us that this event significantly reduces the amount of anxiety they have about this important milestone and makes the rest of the summer more enjoyable.”

During the three-day program, new students, parents, and siblings stay in the residence halls, eat in the cafeteria and attend sessions that help the new students become familiar with the campus environment, build relationships with other new students, faculty and staff, and assist the student’s transition to college. ERP weekend also features a guest speaker/entertainer, Kenn Kington, and a variety of social activities.

“This was absolutely the most positive weekend that we could have had to prepare all of us for this fall,” one parent commented about this year’s ERP weekend. “To see our daughter make new friends and become comfortable with her new surroundings will certainly make it easier to send her to John Brown University in August."

“This year’s Early Registration Program was a huge success,” said Steve Markovich, associate director of visitation and events. “Our admissions counselors have brought in another quality freshman class, and we are all excited about these new students joining us here at JBU in the fall.”

John Brown University is a private university with an enrollment of over 1,600 students from 45 states and 33 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
