John Brown University Men's Basketball Signs Two From Hector

Siloam Springs, Ark (May 13, 2002) — Brandon Cole and Andrew Stanek, both of Hector, Ark., have signed letters of intent to play basketball at John Brown University. Brandon Cole, a two-time All-State performer, averaged 19 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds in his senior year. In addition to being named for the second time to the All-State team, Cole was an All-Conference player three consecutive years and was the Most Valuable Player in the conference. Cole was also named as the Co-Player of the Year in the River Valley (along with Andrew Stanek, his teammate who has also signed with JBU). The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette picked Brandon as a second team All-Arkansas player. He has also been selected to play for the West team in the annual Arkansas All-Star game.

Andrew Stanek of Hector also signed a letter-of-intent to play basketball for the Golden Eagles. Andrew was selected as an Arkansas All-State player this past season and made the All-Conference team for two consecutive years. Stanek, who is 6'5", will play a guard/forward for the Golden Eagles. He averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists as he led the Hector team to the runner-up position in the state tournament. He had a season high of 41 points, hitting 8 of 10 three-pointers in the state tournament final. He was Co-Player of the Year in the River Valley (along with Brandon Cole, his teammate who has also signed with JBU) and was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Honorable Mention All-Arkansas team.

John Sheehy, Golden Eagles basketball coach, is pleased to have Cole and Stanek attend JBU and join the Golden Eagles basketball team.

"These young men are athletes with great character, and they are good people and good students," said Coach Sheehy. "They will make a positive contribution to both John Brown University and to Golden Eagles basketball. I am glad they will be able to continue to play as teammates in college as they have done in high school."

John Brown University is a private university with an enrollment of over 1,600 students from 45 states and 33 countries. JBU is a member of the Arkansas Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
