JBU Soccer to NAIA Region VI Tournament

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 10, 2003) — Although the Golden Eagles were defeated in the semi-finals of the SAC tournament, the John Brown University men’s soccer team has been given the number 2 seed for this week’s regional soccer tournament to be played at Southern Nazarene University. As the 2nd seed, the Golden Eagles will face number 3 seed, USAO, at 3:30 pm on Friday, November 14. SNU gained the top seed and will face Texas A&M International University at 1:00 pm on Friday. The winners of the two semi-final games will square off at 2:00 on Saturday for the NAIA Region VI Championship. The regional tournament champions will automatically qualify for the 45th Annual NAIA National Soccer Tournament to be played November 19-25 in Olathe, Kansas.

In the SAC tournament, USAO scored on JBU in the first 15 minutes of play and was able to hang on for the 1-0 win. JBU had two chances in the closing minutes on headers by Federico Suarez and Soloman Joe, but were unable to capitalize to claim the win.

“It is good to see that our team has earned the respect to be granted the second seed in the region tournament,” said Coach Bob Gustavson. “This will give us an opportunity to make up for the earlier loss to USAO.”
