John Brown University Men Win In Region Tournament

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 14, 2003) — Two first half goals by sophomore Kyle Carter gave John Brown University a 2-1 victory over University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in the semi-finals of the NAIA Region VI soccer tournament. USAO took the early lead on a goal 7 minutes into the game, but the Golden Eagles came back at the 12-minute mark with Carter scoring on an assist by sophomore Wesley Chase. Five minutes later, Carter kicked in his second goal assisted by senior Federico Suarez. That ended the scoring for the day and gave the win to JBU who will now play number 1 seed Southern Nazarene on Saturday for the Region Championship and a berth into the national tournament.

All-conference selection Pablo Fernandez collected 4 saves from his goalkeeper position to control the USAO offensive attack and preserve the JBU victory.

SNU earned their way into the championship game tomorrow by defeating Texas A&M International University 4-0 on Friday afternoon.
