(December 2, 2003) - (Little Rock-AP) -- Legislators say they still haven't drawn closer to agreement on an education plan, even though a special session is to start next week. The Arkansas Supreme Court set a January first deadline for the state to devise a way to make school funding adequate and spread the money fairly among districts. Governor Huckabee says he'll call the session as planned. The governor wants to consolidate some smaller school high schools so the state can better afford improvements. Rural legislators don't want size of a district alone to determine consolidation. Legislators meet today in committee to prepare for the session, which is to start Monday.
