KLRC Announces Winner of Dove Award Trip Give-Away

Siloam Springs, Ark (April 22, 2002) — KLRC, the student-operated radio station that broadcasts from the campus of John Brown University, announced the winner of its Dove Award Give-Away package on Friday April 15. Michael Shelton, of Fort Smith, won the give-away package of a total value of just under $1,800, which will allow Shelton to attend the 33rd annual Dove Awards on Thursday April 25, in Nashville Tennessee. The Dove Awards event is sponsored by the Gospel Music Association and the National Christian Radio Association.

The prize package includes two VIP floor tickets to the prestigious Dove Award ceremony held on April 25, round trip airfare for two from North West Arkansas regional airport to Nashville, overnight accommodations at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville and $101 cash. In addition to seeing many Christian music artists perform at the Dove Awards ceremony, Shelton will also see KLRC station manager Sean Sawatzky accept KLRC’s 2002 Dove Award for Radio Station of the Year for small markets.

The Dove Award Give-away promotion was sponsored by Chick-Fil-A, and Chick-Fil-A restaurants served as official registration sites for the contest.

Sean Sawatzky, general manager of KLRC, said that Shelton is very familiar with the Christian music industry and the artists. "It’s exciting to see how happy this give-away made him. He’s never flown anywhere before in his life and has never won anything."

Shelton tuned in to KLRC in his car when he was in the northwest Arkansas area and immediately registered for the give-away price packet at the Chick-Fil-A restaurant in the northwest Arkansas mall, since he’s unable to tune in to KLRC in Fort Smith. Shelton took the day off last Friday to visit the KLRC studio and spend the day in northwest Arkansas.
