Despite Performance, Golden Eagles Drop Oklahoma Wesleyan, 3-0
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (August 28, 2012) — In its first non-tournament action of the 2012 season, the Golden Eagles volleyball squad beat up on non-conference opponent Oklahoma Wesleyan, sweeping the host Eagles 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-12).
John Brown hit a meager .221 percent on the evening but held OWU to an even lower .090 percent.
“We didn’t play that well,” admitted head coach Stacie Johnson. “We started out the match slow again and we’re letting our opponents dictate the tempo and our style of play.
“If we want to be successful, we have to play our game, regardless of the level of competition.”
Erin Didier and Audrey Dearien, emerging as workhorses for the Golden Eagles, each turned in impressive performances with 10 kills apiece. Didier hit a game-high .381 percent.
“Becca Young had a very nice game for us on defense,” Johnson added. Young notched 11 digs on the evening.
With the win, the Golden Eagles up its record to 4-1 heading into a tournament hosted by College of the Ozarks this weekend, Aug. 31 – Sept. 1. The tournament will feature heavy non-conference opposition that will allow the squad more time to improve before Sooner Athletic Conference play ensues.
