Sudheimer and Allen Lead JBU to Program-Best Finish
BETHANY, Okla. (September 6, 2012) — The JBU men's golf squad had a record-setting day as the Golden Eagles posted a two-day total of 577, a program best. John Brown finished sixth in the 14-team field.
Senior Nathan Sudheimer turned in a career-best round of 71 on the first day. Stephen Allen's two-day total of 141 landed him tied for No. 14 overall.
"I was very pleased with how the team did," noted head coach Brian Thomas. "All four freshman played really well and I was really pleased how they were able to shake off the nerves of their first tournament and put together two solid rounds.
"It's a really good start to the fall season."
The Golden Eagles' impressive play was quite the turnaround from last season. At the very same tournament in 2011, John Brown finished last, marking the startling improvement.
The tournament, hosted by Southwestern Christian University (Kan.), had a total of 14 teams: three Sooner Athletic Conference squads and two NCAA II schools, in addition to a few Junior College programs.
JBU will hit the greens next on Sept. 24-25 in Oklahoma City at the Earlywine Golf Club. The tournament is hosted by Mid-America Christian (Kan.).
