Dearien Notched 84 Kills This Past Week

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (September 17, 2012) — John Brown University freshman Audrey Dearien leads this week's class of Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball honorees as Player of the Week.

Dearien, a 6-0 outside hitter from Frisco, Texas, averaged four kills and 2.48 digs per game as JBU went 5-1 on the week. Dearien, who as of Sunday (Sept. 16) leads the NAIA in total kills, had 84 kills, 52 digs, six aces and 10 blocks on the week to go with a .230 attack percentage.

"I can't overstate how tremendous my teammates' support has been this year," said Dearien. "I wouldn't be the player I am without their encouragement and constant reminders of who we play for."

Dearien also currently ranks No. 18 in the nation with 3.910 kills per game.

Joining Dearien are Wayland Baptist Shahala Hawkins as Hitter of the Week, Lubbock Christian's Nikki Ralston as Libero of the Week and Oklahoma City's Hannah Mitcham as Setter of the Week for Sept. 10-16.

Hawkins, a freshman outside hitter from Denver City, Texas, averaged 3.27 kills and had 9.5 blocks while posting a .293 attack percentage. WBU was 3-0 on the week.

Ralston, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., averaged 5.57 digs and had just one reception error on the week as LCU went 1-1.

Mitcham, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, led the Stars to a 2-1 week, averaging10.75 assists to go with 10 kills.
