Golden Eagles Play to Scoreless Draw at Wayland Baptist
PLAINVIEW, Texas (October 11, 2012) — In a game that featured outstanding play from both goalkeepers, neither team could find the back of the net as John Brown (6-3-1, 1-1-1 SAC) and the Pioneers played extra time to no avail, finishing in a 0-0 draw in Planview.
Kristen Morency was the player of the match as the freshman netminder collected eight saves in the shutout effort. This marks her fifth solo shutout of the season.
The Pioneers (7-5-1, 1-2-1 SAC) came out firing in the first half but the Golden Eagle defensive line held strong while Morency collected four saves in the first half.
JBU's only shot of the first half came in the 15th minute when Laura Garcia's strike was deflected away by the WBU keeper.
Wayland Baptist outshot John Brown 6-4 in the first half.
The second half was much of the same as the Pioneers continued its barrage on the Golden Eagle net, notching four shots in the first ten minutes of the second half.
Midway through the second frame, JBU's Whitney Brannan sprang to life and peppered the WBU defense with three shots on goal. However, the John Brown attack wasn't able to find the scoreboard as the game headed to extra time.
While the first extra time was quiet, the Golden Eagles made a final push for the win as Brannan, Madi Susmilch and Casey O'Brien each had scoring opportunities before the game came to a close.
Brannan paced the JBU offense with nine shots. The visitors held a 5-2 corner kicks advantage throughout the contest.
John Brown will close its Texas road trip with a match at Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday (Oct. 13). Kick-off is set for 11:00 a.m.
