Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Wayland Baptist
PLAINVIEW, Texas (October 11, 2012) — For the first time in 2012, the Golden Eagles (4-5-1, 0-3-0 SAC) have posted a losing record after Wayland Baptist (Texas) handed John Brown a 2-0 defeat tonight in Plainview.
The Pioneers (9-2-0, 3-0-0) found the board early when a Samson Defeugaing header made its way past keeper Pablo Garcia in the 14th minute.
Just 17 minutes later, WBU padded its lead to two as a Travis Somersall strike from inside the box capped the scoring.
Despite the shots finishing at nine apiece, the Golden Eagles forced the Pioneer netminder to make four saves on the evening while the JBU defense allowed two goals on three shots.
Eli Simonsen led the Golden Eagle offense with four shots while Luke Theimer added two. Garcia made one save in the losing effort.
The match featured chippy play as a total of five cautions were handed out, three of which went towards John Brown.
JBU will conclude its Texas tour on Saturday when it travels to Lubbock Christian for a 1:00 p.m. match on Saturday (Oct. 13).
