O’Brien’s Overtime Winner Delivers 1-0 Win to John Brown
LUBBOCK, Texas (October 13, 2012) — Casey O’Brien’s goal in the 96th minute catapulted the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 extra time victory at Lubbock Christian (Texas) today as John Brown capped off a two-game Texas road trip.
With the win, the Golden Eagles up its record to 2-1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play while boasting a 7-3-1 overall mark.
O’Brien’s tally in overtime was her fifth of the season and third game-winner.
Morency recorded a shutout as the freshman netminder turned aside four shots. The shutout marked the freshman’s sixth clean slate of the season.
Despite being outshot 13-9 by the Chaparrals, JBU used its second shot of the overtime period to clinch the victory when O’Brien unleashed a shot from 40 yards out that sailed over the LCU keeper’s head.
Whitney Brannan led the Golden Eagle offense, sending three shots on goal. Karin Sosa posted the only other shot for John Brown before O’Brien’s winner.
John Brown finishes its Texas swing with a pair of 1-0 victories and will return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 17) when it hosts St. Gregory’s (Okla.) at Alumni Field. Game is slated to bein at 1:00 p.m.
