Cross Country Shows Improvement at Stampede
JOPLIN, Mo. (September 15, 2012) — Both Golden Eagle programs continue to take strides as the men and women each took home 19th place in the popular Stampede race hosted by Missouri Southern State University today.
Melissa Roth was JBU’s top women’s performer, finishing in 92nd place with a time of 20:49.39 in the 5k race. Valerie Kliewer finished shortly after with a time of 20:57.19, good enough for 101st place.
The ladies finished with a team total of 508 points, beating out teams such as Graceland (Iowa) and Northwestern Oklahoma State.
On the men’s side, John Brown was paced by Marcos Gutierrez’s time of 27:37.25 in the 8k race, placing him at 55th overall.
Later that same minute, Tekste Gebreslasse turned in a time of 27:45.46, finishing in 65th.
The men finished with a team total of 471 points to finish 19th in the field of 21.
Two weeks from now both programs will return to the course in Clarksville, Ark. at the University of the Ozarks Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 29).
