Gutierrez Paces Golden Eagles to Seventh Place Finish at SAC Conference Run

SHAWNEE, Okla. (November 3, 2012) — Marcos Gutierrez paced the John Brown runners today as the Golden Eagles men's program finished in seventh place at the Sooner Athletic Conference meet, hosted by Oklahoma Baptist, in Shawnee today.

Gutierrez, a sophomore, turned in a time of 26:21 in the 8,000 kilometer race, placing him in 20th place overall, five slots short of an All-Conference nomination.

Wayland Baptist’s Edward Taragon won the individual title in 24:13.

Oklahoma Baptist took the team title with a score of 35, followed by Wayland Baptist at 47, Lubbock Christian at 58, Oklahoma City at 114, Rogers State at 134, St. Gregory’s at 141, John Brown at 184 and Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 240.

Senior Sam Young came in second place for the Golden Eagles, locking up the 51st overall slot, finishing with a time of 29:00.

Rounding out its top-five runners, JBU recorded three-straight finishes at the 53rd-55th slot as junior Caleb Fuller clocked in with a time of 29:26, sophomore Nick Fields at 29:34 and senior Stephen Borengasser closing the scoring for John Brown with a time of 29:46.

John Brown finished with a team total of 184 points, missing out on sixth place by 43 points, captured by St. Gregory's (Okla.).
