Did you hear the one about the escaping Texan?
(February 10, 2004) — (Magnolia-AP) -- Maybe it's not uncommon for customers to buy bolt cutters at Wal-Mart at 4:30 in the morning. But a clerk noticed something unusual about the customer. James Cotton was wearing handcuffs, so the clerk made the sale and then called police who caught him in minutes. Cotton, of Cooper, Texas, was charged with escaping from authorities in Haynesville, Louisiana. He was caught in Magnolia. Wal-Mart workers said that, after buying the bolt cutter Saturday morning, Cotton went into a bathroom and came out free of the handcuffs. Magnolia police spoke with Cotton before he fled into a field behind the store where he was captured. Police said they found the sliced handcuffs in Cotton's pocket.
