Dearien Named to AVCA All-Region Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 29, 2012) — Freshman outside hitter Audrey Dearien added to her list of accolades today as the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the NAIA All-Region teams, to which she was named an honorable mention.

The Frisco, Texas, native has already collected Sooner Athletic Conference All-Tournament honors while nabbing a spot on the SAC first team. Additionally, Dearien was nominated conference Player of the Week for Sept. 10-16, also finding herself named Hitter of the Week for Oct. 29-Nov. 4.

Dearien helped the Golden Eagles finish the season at 22-16 overall, the program's highest win total since 2009 when John Brown netted a 23-11 overall record. She finished at the No. 12 spot in hitting percentage (.203) in the conference while claiming third overall in the SAC in kills per set (3.3). Dearien finished the season ranked No. 43 in the nation in total kills (438) and completed 10 or more kills in 25 games this season, including 20 or more kills in five separate occasions.

Dearien is the first to be named to the AVCA All-Region team since middle hitters Amber Wilson and Christi Newton were nominated in 2008.
