Balanced Offensive Attack Nets John Brown 83-48 Win Over Ecclesia

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (December 4, 2012) — In its third matchup against Ecclesia, the Golden Eagles dominated for a third-consecutive time as five players scored double-digit points en route to the 83-48 win tonight at Bill George Arena.

Sophomore forward Morgan Ankrom tied a career-high, scoring 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field while sophomore guard Lauren Rogers, playing her first significant minutes after returning from injury, chipped in with 14 points, powered by 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range.

Joining the double-digit frenzy were Kortni Barenberg (11 points), Kami Garrison (10 points) and Brooke Barker (10 points). Powered by the 25 points notched by Rogers and Barenberg, the Golden Eagle bench heavily outscored its counterparts by a 40-7 margin.

Ankrom also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds as did Sierra Shipley. John Brown out-rebounded the Royals 51-34, translating into a 33-6 second-chance points advantage.

After the game remained tied at two for the opening minutes, the Golden Eagles shot out to a 24-4 advantage after piecing together a 22-2 run just over seven minutes into the contest. Despite slowing slightly over the remainder of the first half, John Brown shot 44.7 percent (17-of-38) from the field while only allowing Ecclesia seven baskets from the field, translating into a 44-20 JBU halftime lead.

John Brown scored 11 of the first 15 points in the half as its lead ballooned to 31 points. Ankrom's turnaround shot in the paint gave the host squad a 55-24 lead.

As the offense slowly chipped away at the Royals, a Rogers' triple vaulted John Brown to a game-high 43-point advantage, 80-37.

As head coach Jeff Soderquist dug deep into the bench, Ecclesia would outscore the Golden Eagles 11-3 over the remaining 4:41, resulting in the 83-48 final decision.

With its third win over Ecclesia in the first semester of the season, John Brown improved to 4-6 overall while the Royals fell to 2-12. The Golden Eagles will wrap up the remainder of its first semester schedule on the road in the greater St. Louis area, matching up with Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) on Friday, Dec. 7, in a 7:00 p.m. matchup before an afternoon tilt at Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2:00 p.m.
