JBU Basketball Teams Victorious at Home Women win in blow-out against Central Baptist College
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 29, 2001) — Both of the John Brown University basketball teams recorded victories Thursday night, but that is where the similarity ends. The women’s team beat Central Baptist College handily 100-64, while the men’s team needed an extra five minutes of overtime to overcome the Scots of Lyon College 90-79.
The scoring load for the Lady Golden Eagles was shared by six players, all of whom reached double figures. Junior post Katie Elliot led the way with 22 points followed by senior post LaTosha Wilson with 17, freshman Miranda Allen with 12, sophomore forward Bethany Sites with 12, senior forward Sofie Voordeckers also with 12, and junior guard Lara Keeling came up with 11.
High scorer for Central Baptist was sophomore guard/forward Alicia Ward with 27 points.
The win gives the Lady Golden Eagles a 6-3 record with one more game remaining before the Christmas break.
For the men the game was tied at both half-time, at the end of regulation and if not tied close throughout the rest of the game. The team was able to pull away in overtime against Lyon with a 15 point outburst while clamping down on defense, allowing Lyon only four points.
Senior Aldo McKay led the Golden Eagles with 22 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double. Senior center Jahir Mejia, after only scoring two points in the first half, came on to score 16 in the second, and freshman forward Reyjavick De Garcia came off the bench to provide 12 points. Senior forward Nathan Law provided 13 points in the winning effort.
