Huckabee supports gay marriage ban

(February 26, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Governor Huckabee says he supports amendments to both the federal and state constitutions to ban gay marriages. A Baptist minister, Huckabee says he supports affirming marriage in the traditional sense. While the governor says it's not the government's business what consenting adults do in the privacy of their homes, he says gay marriages bring the issue into the public and ask society to accept same-sex marriages and have government approve them. Huckabee defends President Bush's call for a constitutional amendment and disagrees with critics of Bush who say he is using the issue for political reasons.
