Golden Eagles Swimmers Setting Records at Nationals

Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 5, 2004) — After two days of competition at the NAIA National Swimming and Diving Championships, the JBU women’s team has compiled 61 points and is in 5th place in the team standings. School record setting performances and scoring in the meet have been the highlight as the women swimmers compete in the national meet.

Placing 5th in the finals of the 200 yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Lindsey Smith, Kathleen Kubricht, Stephanie Burrell and Jenny Brown swam to a time of 1:42.34 to score 20 points and also establish a new JBU school record for the event breaking the old record of 1:46.55 set in 2002.

The 400 yard Medley Relay team of Mariah Rose, Burrell, Kubricht, and Smith placed 4th in the finals to score 22 points and also broke the school record for the event. Their time of 4:08.75 bettered the existing record of 4:16.23 established in 2003.

In the first day of competition, the 800 yard Freestyle Relay team swam 8:17.38 to finish in 7th place. The time established yet another JBU school record breaking the old record of 8:39.92 set in 2003. Swimming on the 800 Relay were Rose, Canda Cottrill, Brown and Kubricht.

Competition will conclude with events on Friday and Saturday in the NAIA meet in Lawrence, Kansas.
