School mergers inch forward
(March 15, 2004) — (Bryant-AP) -- More mergers as the school consolidation deadline looms across the state. The Bryant School District has agreed to take on the 265-student Paron district. The move allows Paron to continue operating its schools. Paron is one of 57 Arkansas school districts directed by the Legislature to reorganize to provide better education for children in smaller schools. Act 60, which became law in January, requires districts with fewer than 350 students to merge with larger districts either through annexation or consolidation. Paron superintendent George Lawson said earlier that little would change under the merger agreement.
