Profiling task force lacks funds

(April 13, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Members of a racial profiling task force appointed by the governor say a lack of funding is making it difficult to carry out their duties. Governor Huckabee created the task force to gather information about racial profiling from law enforcement agencies and residents. The task force has about a year to complete a report for the governor. But the group has little funding and no support staff. Panel member Sherman Tate says the group is to receive a vast amount of information and needs some administrative help. Task Force Chairman Rickey Hicks says he plans to ask Huckabee to provide money to help process the information. The group is planning to visit several cities and hear from people who say they drew the attention of a police officer because of their race.
