Arkansas gets $28 million in security funds

Siloam Springs, Ark (April 16, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Former Congressman Asa Hutchinson has returned to his home state of Arkansas to announce a major grant for law enforcement. Hutchinson is now under secretary of the Homeland Security Department. He said at a news conference yesterday at Little Rock that the state will get a 28 million, 815-thousand dollar grant to help pay for a statewide wireless communication system. Officials said they hope the system will link all law officers and other emergency workers in the state. Hutchinson said the system will eventually link all law officers, firefighters, paramedics and other first responders - no matter what agency they represent.
