(April 21, 2004) - (Little Rock-AP) -- Governor Huckabee says the law won't allow him to gut the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, even though anti-alcohol activists want him to do just that. Members of Citizens Against Alcohol in Craighead County rallied at the state Capitol yesterday and called for the governor to replace three of the five board members with people from dry counties. The group also called for the repeal of a 2003 law that broadens the purposes of "private clubs" that can sell alcohol. Huckabee says board seats can't open unless members resign or are no longer qualified. All five board members are from counties where alcohol is poured legally.
