Gov to unveil health plan for Arkansans
(May 5, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- Governor Huckabee wants to focus state resources on lowering levels of obesity and tobacco use and increasing exercise. With his "Healthy Arkansas" plan, he wants to spend the remainder of his term improving Arkansas from one of the unhealthiest states in the country. Arkansas currently ranks at the bottom in many health categories. The governor says specifics will be announced in the coming weeks. Huckabee, who dropped 105 pounds in the last year, said he can understand how difficult it can be to lead a healthier lifestyle, but he doesn't want to hear excuses. His plan targets state employees, Medicaid recipients and other Arkansans. Huckabee said the state will use its existing resources and new private and federal funding for the plan.
