Pres. Bush returns to Arkansas

(May 7, 2004) — (Little Rock-AP) -- President Bush is expected next week to make his third trip this year to Arkansas, a swing state for this year's elections. Bush is expected to be in Fort Smith on Tuesday. Bush visited the Baptist Medical center in Little Rock in January and traveled to El Dorado in April. Neither White House officials nor the president's re-election campaign would discuss the event. But handlers of a Governor Mike Huckabee news conference set for Tuesday said the governor had to cancel because of Bush's visit. Bush visited Arkansas eight times in 2000, when he won by a margin of 50-thousand votes over Vice President Al Gore and won the state's six electoral votes. Bush won the presidency with no electoral votes to spare. Presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry is expected in Little Rock for a fund-raiser Wednesday, but his campaign has not officially confirmed it.
