Swing state status brings visits

(May 10, 2004) — (Undated-AP) -- Arkansans will be courted this week with back-to-back visits from President Bush and Democrat John Kerry. Bush is to arrive on Air Force One at 11:15 p.m. tomorrow at the Fort Smith airport. He goes to Butterfield Junior High School in Van Buren to talk about the federal No Child Left Behind Act. He leaves about two hours after his arrival. Details on Kerry's visit are to be announced today at a state Democratic Party news conference. The Massachusetts senator and presumed Democratic presidential nominee plans to visit the state Wednesday. Arkansas is among the states considered critical to the outcome of the November election. For Bush, this week's trip will be his third to Arkansas since the start of the year. Kerry's visit will be his first to the state since gaining enough delegates to secure his party's nomination.
