Lynne Cheney speaks in Springdale

(May 12, 2004) — (Springdale-AP) -- Lynne Cheney says that with the country at war, this is not a time for leaders who change with the political wind. The wife of vice president Dick Cheney campaigned for the Republican presidential ticket yesterday in northwest Arkansas, a GOP stronghold. She spoke to about 11-hundred people at the Northwest Arkansas Lincoln Day Dinner, the biggest annual Republican Party fund-raiser in the state, both in terms of attendance and money raised. Cheney says the United States is at war with people who kill civilians without scruple, referring to the videotaped execution of an American contractor in Iraq. While Cheney was in Springdale, President Bush made an appearance in Van Buren to tout his education programs. Presumptive Democratic candidate John Kerry is due in Little Rock today.
