Muslim driver sues JB Hunt over load of beer

(June 24, 2004) — (Nashville, Tennessee) -- A Muslim truck driver is suing an Arkansas trucking company, claiming he was fired for refusing to transport a load of beer. Forty-two-year-old Ibrahim Barzinji said he told Lowell-based JB Hunt Transport Services that hauling beer violated his beliefs. J-B Hunt declined to comment about the lawsuit. Barzinji said he was asked to return from Saint Louis with a load of Budweiser beer in June 2003. He said a supervisor told him to choose between transporting the beer and losing his job. Dealing with alcohol in any way is against Islamic law, said Amir Arain, spokesman for the Islamic Center of Nashville.
