"And when will you be going out to vote?"
(June 24, 2004) — (Jefferson City-AP) -- A Democratic group has been paying felons to conduct door-to-door voter registration drives in swing states. America Coming Together says the convicts deserve a second chance in society. The organization has employed felons - some convicted of sex offenses, assault and burglary - as voter canvassers in Missouri, Florida and Ohio and erhaps in other states including Arkansas. The Associated Press discovered felons were working for the organization through a review of federal campaign finance and state criminal records. America Coming Together works against the re-election of President Bush and technically isn't affiliated with John Kerry's presidential campaign. A spokesman said the organization does not believe the felons it sends door to door pose a threat to the public.
