Eagles Go 2-2 in Weekend Tournament

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 2, 2004) — The Golden Eagles advance to 23-5 after winning two our their four matches this weekend at Lindenwood University. The tournament began on Friday morning with a strong performance by the Golden Eagles, defeating Missouri Valley College in three games (30-25, 30-17, 30-24). Friday evening, JBU faced Lindenwood, the tournament host. The Golden Eagles made some key mental errors and lost in five games (20-30, 30-24, 30-22, 27-30, 7-15). Saturday morning began with another loss to Culver Stockton College in four games (28-30, 33-31, 28-30, 26-30). Before their last game on Saturday, JBU mentally regrouped and entered their last match with renewed energy and focus. They defeated Central Methodist University in four games (27-30, 34-32, 30-24, 30-22). Reflecting on the success of the tournament, Head Coach Robyn Gordon said, “The losses to Lindenwood and Culver Stockton were very disappointing for us. We didn't play our style of ball and lost our focus at key moments. However, the win against Central Methodist was critical. We wanted to go into Fall Break on a positive note and Central Methodist had just posted a win over the #2 team in the nation, Columbia College.”
