John Brown University wins Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 13, 2004) — The Golden Eagles advanced to 36-7 after defeating Southern Nazarene University (30-16, 22-30, 30-13, 30-27) and Lubbock Christian University (30-15, 30-21, 17-30, 30-26) to win the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. Meghann Wharton was chosen as the SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player with 27 kills, 2 aces, and 8 blocks and Helen Gross was named to the All-Tournament team with 31 kills and 4 blocks. Many Golden Eagles were honored with SAC awards. Helen Gross, Tati Silva, and Elisa Evans were named Second Team All-Conference. Meghann Wharton, Juliana Todescan, and Christine Wells were named First Team All-Conference. Christine Wells was the SAC Back Row Specialist of the Year with 773 season digs, Meghann Wharton was the SAC Front Row Specialist of the Year with 407 kills and 169 blocks, and Juliana Todescan was the SAC Newcomer of the Year with 1, 552 assists, 110 aces, and 82 blocks. Robyn Gordon was chosen as the SAC Coach of the Year. The Golden Eagles will travel to Odessa, TX for the Region VI Tournament November 19-20.
