Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 15, 2004) - The John Brown University women’s basketball team was on the road this weekend for the College of the Ozarks Classic. The Eagles were able to come away with wins both nights, moving their record to 3-0.
Friday night the women faced Iowa Wesleyan College, winning the game with a score of 76-54. The Golden Eagles got off to a quick start, scoring 43 points in the first half and holding Iowa Wesleyan to 15. The women shot 55% from the field and 30% from 3 point range. Leading scorers were sophomore Ashley Wettengel with 18 and junior Kendra McCormick with 10. McCormick also led the team in rebounds with nine.
In Saturday’s action, the Eagles had a close game against Tabor College, pulling out the 54-50 win. Going into halftime with a 26-26 tie, the women were able to outscore Tabor in the second half to get the win. Wettengel and McCormick were once again the leading scorers with 12 and 17 respectively.
The women will be home for their next two games as they host the JBU Golden Eagles Classic next weekend. They will face College of the Ozarks at 8:00 pm Friday night, and University of the Ozarks at 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
