Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 19, 2005) - Northern Irish author, pastor, and Staley lecturer Derick Bingham will be launching an international book tour for his new biography about C.S. Lewis, A Shiver of Wonder, with the help of John Brown University next week. Bingham will embark on his public speaking tour at JBU’s chapel services next Tuesday, Jan. 25 and Thursday, Jan. 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Ozarks. The public is invited to attend the chapel services as well as a special event at City Coffee Company on Friday, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. Grab a cup of your favorite coffee, a copy of A Shiver of Wonder, and enjoy a reading and book signing by Bingham. This special event is sponsored by the office of Christian Formation at John Brown University. Bingham, a native of County Down, Northern Ireland, has long been inspired by the life of the beloved author C.S. Lewis. In Shiver of Wonder, he seeks to show the deep influence of the environments of Belfast and County Down on Lewis’s imagination, and traces the hand of God in seeking Lewis, who so actively denied God for many years. Bingham has written twenty-three books, including a recent biography of another native of County Down, the legendary Amy Carmichael, titled The Wild-Bird Child. He is a graduate of Queen’s University and a teaching pastor with Christ Church in Belfast. Bingham has been a speaker at Keswick Convention in England, taught English and literature at Lurgan College and conducted public Bible classes in Scotland and Northern Ireland, which were attended by thousands. He broadcasts weekly for TransWorld Radio into Europe and the Middle East, and travels internationally teaching and preaching the Gospel. He and his wife Margaret have three grown children. John Brown University is a private Christian university, ranked eighth by U.S. News & World Report in the Southern Region. JBU enrolls more than 1,900 students from 43 states and 40 countries. JBU is a member of Arkansas’ Independent Colleges and Universities and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
