Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 17, 2005) - The John Brown University men’s basketball team (15-10, 6-8 SAC) got a much needed win against a higher ranked opponent Thursday night in Siloam Springs. The Golden Eagles beat the SAC #4 ranked Oklahoma City Stars 69-66, giving JBU a much needed boost in conference play.
The teams played a close game for 40 minutes. The Stars took the largest lead of the half of six points with eight minutes left, but JBU brought themselves back to within three at half, with the score 25-28. In the second half, the three point shooting by Brandon Cole and Adam Workman helped the Golden Eagles to take the lead for good with 5:16 left on the clock. JBU climbed to the highest lead of the night of nine with 1:37 on the clock. The Stars made a late three and a last second field goal to bring the final score to a three point win by JBU.
Brandon Cole had four treys and six free throws to lead his team in scoring with 18. Reyjavick De Gracia was close behind with 14. The Golden Eagles shot 45% from the field and 34% from behind the arc. Their opponent shot 37% from the field and 29% from three point land.
The Golden Eagles stay at home Saturday for an important game against St. Gregorys. Tip-off is 3:00 p.m.
