Golden Eagles, Bears Tie in 2OT

Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 21, 2005) — The John Brown Golden Eagles and 19th-ranked NCAA Division II Central Arkansas tied 1-1 in double-overtime Wednesday in Siloam Springs. The game was a back-and-forth defensive struggle until the final 15 minutes of regulation when UCA (6-1-1) took the lead on a goal by Casey Donovan in the 77th minute. It looked as if the Bears might pull out the victory until the 89th minute when Kyle Carter put in a header near the left goalpost on an assist by Daniel Fleming, tying the score at 1-1. John Brown continued to threaten in the final minute, but could not break the tie.

The Golden Eagles dominated the ball in the first overtime, but were thwarted in their attempts to score by UCA goalkeeper Chris Murphy, who finished with eight saves. In the second overtime, momentum shifted to the Bears, but John Brown goalkeeper Glen Goodner preserved the tie, ending the game with 10 saves.

John Brown (6-1-1) hosts Park (Mo.) Saturday at 2:00.
