JBU Wins Bellevue Classic

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 30, 2005) — The John Brown Golden Eagles claimed victory in the Best Western Halloween Classic on the campus of Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb., this weekend. John Brown defeated 22nd-ranked Bellevue 3-2 on Friday and then swept both Ottawa (Kan.) and William Penn (Iowa) on Saturday. The Golden Eagles improved to 28-6 on the season. John Brown made a comeback to beat Bellevue after trailing 2-0. Five Golden Eagles scored in double figures, with Samantha Rogoff leading the way with 16 kills, and Tati Silva adding 15. Taylor Young and Summer Cox each contributed 11, and Elisa Mendieta made 10. Juliana Todescan provided 58 assists and 18 digs, while Christine Wells made 26 digs, and Rachel Melby added 14.

In the sweep of Ottawa, Silva scored 16 digs, followed by Laurae Marty with 9. Todescan made 35 assists, and Wells contributed 19 digs.

The Golden Eagles clinched the tournament title by sweeping William Penn. In that match, Silva again led the John Brown offense with 13 kills, while adding 10 digs defensively. Mendieta added 9 kills, and Todescan made 34 assists and 12 digs. Wells led the defense with 19 digs.

John Brown hosts Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on Tuesday at 7:00. It is Senior Night for the Golden Eagles, who will be recognizing Christine Wells, Tati Silva, and Elisa Mendieta.
