Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 14, 2005) - Brandon Cole hit seven 3-pointers, made 12-of-12 free throw attempts, and scored a career-high 39 points as the 8th-ranked John Brown Golden Eagles rolled past Belhaven (Miss.) 80-65 Monday night in Siloam Springs. Adam Workman also scored 11 for the Golden Eagles (3-1), who hit 12 3-pointers as a team. Joel Tesis pulled down 12 rebounds and scored six points. Bobby Johnson led Belhaven with 18 points, and Kris Foote added 10.
As with every one of John Brown’s games this season, the score was close early, but the Golden Eagles’ hot shooting soon gave them separation from the Blazers. With John Brown trailing 10-9 with 13:36 remaining in the first half, Workman hit a 3-pointer, and Belhaven would never again lead. John Brown pushed its lead to 37-27 by halftime.
The Golden Eagles went on a shooting rampage early in the second half. Cole nailed four treys in a four-minute span, interrupted only by a 3-pointer by Tyler Dees. John Brown took its largest lead of the game at 54-34 with 13:43 remaining. Workman added two more treys at 8:02 and 7:35 in the second half, but was matched both times by 3-pointers from Johnson and Julien Marion.
John Brown travels to Springfield, Mo., this weekend to play in the Drury Classic. The Golden Eagles will play Drury on Friday and College of the Ozarks (Mo.) on Saturday.
