Volleyball Season Ends at Regionals
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 18, 2005) — The Region VI Tournament turned out to be the end of the line for the 2005 John Brown Golden Eagles this weekend. The 3rd-seeded Golden Eagles defeated 6th-seeded Southern Nazarene (Okla.) 30-21, 24-30, 30-18, 24-30, 15-12, but lost to 2nd-seeded Houston Baptist 20-30, 30-32, 18-30 in the semifinals later on Friday.
Senior Tati Silva posted 28 kills and 16 digs against Southern Nazarene and 9 kills, 3 aces, and 11 digs against Houston Baptist. She was named to the All-Tournament team as a result. Juliana Todescan contributed 63 assists, 12 digs, and 3 aces against Southern Nazarene and 21 assists and 10 digs against Houston Baptist. Senior Christine Wells made 33 digs in the first match and 20 digs in the second. Samantha Rogoff scored 17 kills against Southern Nazarene, and Rachel Melby also posted 3 aces against the Crimson Storm.
Head coach Robyn Gordon concluded after the semifinal loss, “It has been a great season for JBU volleyball, and I’m proud of the girls. They worked hard and accomplished a lot this season.” The Golden Eagles finished with a 33-8 record overall and a 6-2 record in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Houston Baptist eventually won the tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 upset victory over top-seeded Texas Wesleyan.
