Lady Stars Overwhelm Golden Eagles

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 19, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles were no match defensively or offensively for the 4th-ranked Oklahoma City Lady Stars, giving up a 69-39 decision at home Thursday night. Mariam Sy scored 25 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Lady Stars, while Kendra McCormick and Ashley Wettengel led the Golden Eagles with 7 points apiece.

Oklahoma City (15-2, 6-0 SAC) took a 14-3 lead early, holding John Brown (11-7, 3-3 SAC) without a field goal for the first seven minutes of play. The Lady Stars continued to expand their lead until it stood at 37-19 at halftime. In the second half, the Golden Eagles started strong on a 16-4 run, cutting their deficit to 44-35 on two free throws by Wettengel with 10:13 left. But Fabiana Araujo hit a three-pointer with 9:59 left to stretch Oklahoma City’s lead to 47-35. The Lady Stars closed the game on a 25-4 run.

Oklahoma City out-rebounded John Brown 45-21 and shot 45.6% from the field. John Brown shot just 28.2% overall and 18.2% from behind the three-point line.
