Golden Eagles Take Home Swim Meet

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 24, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles returned to action Saturday in their first home meet of the season, defeating Austin College (Texas) 85-39. The rosters for both the Golden Eagles and the Kangaroos were depleted by sicknesses and injuries, but John Brown took advantage of some key performances to secure the win.

Sophomores Gabby McCully and Ashley Kenline both qualified for the NAIA National Meet in the 1650-yard freestyle. McCully finished second in 19:28.35, and Kenline swam in fourth with a time of 20:11.68. Both athletes were swimming the mile-long event for the first time.

Sophomore Laura Ravenscroft (27.42) and senior Jenny Brown (27.74) swept the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Ravenscroft also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.69. Gabe Ives finished third in a time of 1:01.38. John Brown’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of McCully, Ravenscroft, Brown, and Kenline made the National cut with a 1:49.79 swim, five seconds ahead of Austin.
