Golden Eagles Finish 8th at Conference Meet

Siloam Springs, Ark. (February 21, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles swam to an 8th-place finish in a field of 15 at the Liberal Arts Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this weekend. John Brown scored 173 points, 36 ahead of 9th-place Minnesota-Morris and just 7 behind 7th-place Austin College (Texas).

John Brown’s relay teams contributed greatly to the Golden Eagles’ overall score. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Ashley Kenline, Gabe Ives, Becca Camfield, and Gabby McCully finished 8th in 8:42.70, a 9-second improvement on their seed time. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Linda Wyman, Ives, Rachel Ellis, and Camfield finished 13th in 2:02.58. The 400-yard medley relay team of Jenny Brown, McCully, Kenline, and Laura Ravenscroft swam in 6th with a time of 4:23.46, 11-seconds better than their seed time. The 200-yard medley relay team of Camfield, Brown, Ives, and Ravenscroft shaved 6 seconds off their seed time, finishing 10th in the finals with a time of 2:07.14. Finally, Ravenscroft, Kenline, Brown, and McCully finished 6th in the 400-yard freestyle relay, bettering their seed time by more than 8 seconds.

The Golden Eagles performed well in their individuals races as well. McCully finished 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.81. In the 200-yard backstroke, Camfield swam a 2:22.33 race to finish 6th, and Brown finished 9th in 2:19.98. Ravenscroft finished 14th in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming it in 59.29. Camfield swam to 11th place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:40.36.

One of John Brown’s strongest showings was in the 400-yard individual medley. McCully finished 6th in 5:06.08, and Brown finished 11th in 5:14.17. They both improved on their preliminary times by two seconds.

Kenline finished 7th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:43.51. Camfield and Brown then finished 13th and 15th in the 100-yard backstroke, with times of 1:07.47 and 1:07.81, respectively. Kenline wrapped up the individual events with a 26.32 finish in the 50-yard freestyle, which was good enough for 11th-place.
