JBU Volleyball Team to Take Mission Trip
Siloam Springs, Ark. (March 8, 2006) — The John Brown Golden Eagles volleyball team will depart Northwest Arkansas next Friday for its second mission trip to Central America. The team will travel to Guatemala and El Salvador over Spring Break to conduct clinics and play exhibition matches against local high school, college, and national teams. The players and coaches will also visit orphanages, churches, and juvenile prisons in the national capitals of Guatemala City and San Salvador.
The Golden Eagles have raised $20,000 for this trip through private donations, muffin sales, a dessert auction, merchandise sales, and outdoor cleanup at a local daycare. The team also managed concession sales for the home John Brown basketball games this season and conducted a volleyball marathon on Sunday.
The trip, coordinated by Sports Ambassadors, will begin on March 17, with a return date set for March 26. It will be the second time the team has visited Guatemala, but the first time it has visited El Salvador. Head Coach Robyn Gordon commented, “What a blessing it is to be able to go and share Jesus to another area of the world. It is a great time of growth and bonding for our team, but our focus is on what we can do to bless the people we come into contact with.
“This trip is an amazing opportunity that we do not take lightly. The team members have been preparing for this trip throughout the school year and we are excited to have all the details in place.”
