Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 16, 2006) - The John Brown Golden Eagles let go of the lead with 3 minutes remaining against Bacone Thursday night and they never got it back. The Warriors then hung on for a 68-64 victory in Muskogee, Okla., handing John Brown (5-1) its first loss of the season. Senior guard Adam Workman scored 21 points and hit five 3-pointers for the Golden Eagles, and junior center Joel Tesis added 14 points, but their efforts were not enough to overcome a second-half Bacone surge.
The Warriors, after shooting 21% from two- and 25% from three-point range in the first half, shot 54% from two- and 63% from three-point range in the second half. The Golden Eagles could not keep up and preserve their 26-20 halftime lead, especially once Tesis and junior point guard Alex Green fouled out. John Brown finished the game having shot 42% from two- and 26% from three-point range. Jerrell Strickland led Bacone with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Wes Brown pulled down 8 rebounds for John Brown.
The Golden Eagles held a 41-40 rebounding edge, but committed 16 turnovers to Bacone’s 10.
