JBU Signs Volleyball Standout

Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 27, 2006) — Alyssa Hanson, a 5-7 setter from Victory Christian High School in Tulsa, Okla., has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for John Brown University. Hanson has also been a member of Team Tulsa’s club program.

During her senior season, she led her team to the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) 4A State Finals. She was also named to the OSSAA 4A State All-Tournament Team, and the Commando Shootout All-Tournament Team. Hanson was voted as her team’s Most Valuable Player and also served as the varsity captain.

Head coach Robyn Gordon has had her eye on Hanson for several years, and is optimistic about what she can bring to the table. “We are excited to have Alyssa join our program,” said Gordon. “She is an excellent setter that we have been watching since her sophomore year, and she is a great fit for JBU, both athletically and academically.

Hanson will be joining a John Brown team that will be losing five seniors from its 2006 roster. John Brown finished with a 21-20 record overall including a perfect 10-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, which earned them the title of SAC Champions. Hanson is the first member of John Brown’s recruiting class.
