Women Drop Close Home Game

Siloam Springs, Ark. (January 6, 2007) — Clutch free throws allowed the number two ranked Oklahoma City Stars to pull off the 68-63 win over the Lady Golden Eagles on Saturday night. Chelsea Ledbetter scored 19 points for Oklahoma City (14-0, 3-0), followed by 14 points and 11 rebounds from Alexandra Kotta. Ashley Wettengel led John Brown (4-9, 1-1), with 17 points and five boards despite being fouled out with seven minutes remaining in the game.

John Brown came out strong jumping out to a 13-4 lead, but Oklahoma City would fight back and take a 33-26 lead into the break on a buzzer beating three-point basket from Ledbetter.

At 12:54 in the second half, John Brown would tie the game at 41 on a lay-up from Paige Blackburn, who would finish with 15. LedBetter would go ahead to put Oklahoma City up 60-50 on a baseline jumper with 4:52 remaining, but John Brown would close the gap after consecutive stops and baskets. With 23 seconds remaining another Blackburn lay up would only see John Brown down by three points (66-63), but John Brown would be forced to foul. Kay McConnell would go on to sink both free throws, and John Brown would be unable to convert on a three-point attempt.

Nancy Pierre was the only other John Brown player in double figures with 11 points and six boards. Jordyn West, however, also pitched in with nine points and seven rebounds.

John Brown returns to action on Thursday when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6:00.
