Volleyball Receives Another Academic Honor

Siloam Springs, Ark. (July 19, 2007) — John Brown University volleyball has been recognized as one of the receipents for the 2006-07 Game Plan/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year.

John Brown recorded a 3.4 team GPA, which included the 12 players, one manager and one student-assistant coach.

Head Coach Robyn Gordon is very pleased with her team's accomplishment.

"I'm very proud of the girls and the time and effort that they put into their academic work," said Gordon. "It is difficult to juggle academics and athletics, but these girls prove that it can be done."

Sixteen NAIA teams received this award, and a total of 303 in high school and in all college divisions.
