Women earn shutout on the road
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 3, 2007) — On a day when most people were able to take the day off, the women’s soccer team at John Brown was hard at work defeating Newman (Kan.) 3-0. Sarah Kidd paced JBU with two goals, both coming in the second half.
In the 25th minute, freshman midfielder Camille Malkiewicz would find freshman forward Robyn Kluka in the box for JBU’s first goal. JBU would have several other opportunities to score in the first but would come up empty, entering the break with the 1-0 lead.
Both teams would play stifling defense in the second half, and not until the 82nd minute of the match would JBU strike again when freshman Brittany Allen found freshman Sarah Kidd for her first goal of the day. Kidd would score a second goal three minutes later off a Malkiewicz assist giving JBU the 3-0 lead.
Head coach Joe Thoma was pleased with the victory and gave much credit to the goalkeepers in today’s game.
“Megan Rouse and Katie Mahoney, both played well for us in this match,” said Thoma. “And they came up with several huge saves when we needed them.”
John Brown (2-1-0) will return to action on the road against Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) on Friday at 4 p.m.
