Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 18, 2007) - John Brown University’s volleyball squad looked strong from start to finish as they defeated Evangel (Mo.) 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-28) on Tuesday night at home in Murray Sells Gymnasium. John Brown (5-8) set the tempo early in the match and never let go of the intensity. After losing the first two games, Evangel would challenge John Brown in the third taking it down to the wire. John Brown would fall behind 26-25 after controlling most of the game but would rally for several key stops. JBU would force Evangel to make several errors down the stretch that would secure the victory for John Brown. Freshman Kirsten Lee led the team with 11 kills while Amber Wilson and Christi Newton followed close behind with 10 kills each. Britney Kerns paced the squad with 22 assists and Alyssa Hanson had 20. On the defensive end, junior Laurae Marty had four blocks and junior Aubrey Junker had 21 digs. Up next, the Golden Eagles travel to Shawnee, Okla. to face conference foe St. Gregory’s on Thursday at 7 p.m.
